It has been almost exactly one year since Tracy Morgan was in that terrible accident involving a Walmart truck that killed his friend and mentor, James McNair, and left Morgan severely injured.

For the first time since that accident, Tracy Morgan sat down for an interview to talk about the trauma and his recovery. This was the first time we have really seen Tracy at all since the accident other than a few pictures here and there.

It was interesting to see Morgan speak with Matt Lauer on the TODAY show. Along with a broken leg and several broken ribs, severe brain trauma was part of his injuries. It was apparent that Morgan was not quite himself. He was visibly grieving during the interview. He got very emotional when they mentioned the death of his friend, McNair (Jimmy Mac) and when he spoke of the care he received in the hospital.

Another person Tracy made sure to thank was Walmart. This seemed a rather odd addition to the interview considering the legal battle that took place following the accident. The case was finally settled in the end. There haven’t been many details released about the settlement, but it appears Walmart did take very good care of McNair’s family. But it does leave me to wonder if part of the settlement was for Morgan to publicly thank Walmart and have so many good things to say about the company.

However, it was good to see Tracy on TV again. Understandably, we did not see any smiles from Tracy – or any comedy that we all know and love him for. But, he did look well and that was great to see.

He mentioned in the interview that he was not yet back to 100% and right now, his goals are to recover. We wish him all the best and can’t wait to see him on TV or in another movie.

Tracy did say one thing that stood out that we can all be grateful to hear:

“I’ll get back to making you laugh. I promise you.”
