Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao was one of the biggest and most anticipated fights of the century. What came as no surprise to anyone, Mayweather defeated Pacquiao last night by unanimous decision.

Mayweather cemented his place in boxing history by becoming 48-0. Pacquiao was the biggest opponent that Mayweather had yet to face. It took a long time for these two to face-off, so to say this fight was highly anticipated is an extreme understatement.

Despite the two greatest boxers the world has seen in a long time competing against each other, in what was expected to be a thrilling and exciting fight, the world appears to be a bit disappointed.

This should not have come as a huge surprise. This is the style of Floyd Mayweather. He is the king of defensive tactics and precision. This is just the first time the world really paid attention. Perhaps it was all of the pre-fight intimidation tactics we saw from Mayweather by images of him chopping trees in order to prepare for the fight, we expected a heavy-weight bout full of epic punches and a knock-out.

Mayweather spent his time in the ring doing what he does best; protecting himself and mastering his counterpunches. That is his style. He actually hasn’t had a knockout since 2011 against Victor Ortiz. His last knockout prior to that was in 2007 against Ricky Hatton. Mayweather is a boxer, not a fighter. But this style of play left most people disappointed and very underwhelmed.

It appears most of the viewers were more entertained by Mayweather’s entourage, featuring Justin Bieber and, yes, the Burger King mascot, and BeyoncĂ©’s stunning, low-cut pant-suit.

Viewers and celebrities did not hold back on Twitter. I think Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, won the Twitter comments by tweeting, “Mayweather has hugged Manny more times than my dad has hugged me my whole life.” And you certainly know it was a bad fight if the king of boxing, Mike Tyson, tweets, “We waited 5 years for that… #underwhelmed #MayPac.”

Mayweather says he is hanging up the gloves later this year. He has all the money in the world, but with such a disappointing response from nearly everyone, and Pacquiao’s camp stating that Manny boxed with a hurt shoulder, I wonder if he’ll feel pressured to give us a rematch.
