Tamar Braxton’s Love and War is a lot like any other quality R&B record. It’s got superstar production with the likes of Sean “Diddy “ Combs, a nice mixture of up-beat tunes with more traditional softer ballads, and a singer with a broad vocal range fully capable of nailing the highs and lows that make up the R&B genre. But there’s one glaring difference between Love and War and most of the other R&B albums out this year: This is the first solo LP from Braxton in 13 years.

Not that time has changed much for Braxton; she can still put out some great work despite being out of the game for over a decade. The title track, “Love and War,” was the  first single cut, and saying it was well-received would be an understatement — it put Braxton right back on the charts, hitting Billboards Top 15 R&B Songs list. That’s an interesting accolade simply because it reaffirms the timelessness of Braxton’s talent. If she can top the charts 13 years into her career while being pitted against younger and more recognizable singers, Braxton is obviously doing something right.

Braxton released the second single, “The One,” in 2013 and it hit heavy radio rotation almost immediately. Produced by Diddy and featuring a music video, “The One” helped solidify Braxton’s comeback kid status. Even now, driving around town with the windows down, you’re bound to hear the song coming from someone’s car…if you’re not listening to it yourself!
