In this 2014 sequel, The Purge: Anarchy is a Horror/Thriller written and directed by James DeMonaco. The sequel does not have any Actors as high profile as Ethan Hawke from the first Purge movie, but the cast does perform well to give us another quality scary movie.

This movie, starring Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo and Zach Gilford, takes place in 2023, one year after the events of the first movie. The Purge itself is a 12 hour window in Los Angeles where the law ceases to exist. Anything goes as people are free to commit any crime they want while others are focused only on surviving the night.

Three groups of people who are unfortunately caught outside and away from anywhere safe when the purge begins manage to come together in hopes of surviving the night of chaos and violence.

The main character, Leo, played by Frank Grillo, is a tough guy who is out for revenge on the drunken driver who killed his son months earlier. He ends up reluctantly trying protecting the rest of the cast throughout the night while trying to get to the house of the drunken driver to confront the man who killed his son.

While Grillo is not too well known, you might recognize him for his secondary role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier last year.

This movie is far more action-based than its predecessor. Instead of mainly taking place inside a house, the main characters are out on the street trying to survive against all odds against different waves of groups all out to kill anyone they can, including a main villain known as Big Daddy and a group of rich people who pay to kill anyone brought to their hideout.

If you liked the first Purge movie, this one is definitely worth a watch. And if you are a fan of them both, there is a nice cliffhanger at the end leaving it open for a third movie in the series.
