In a throw-down of magnificent consequence, Floyd Mayweather easily beat Argentinean welterweight Marcos Maidana…again. And this time, there is no need for another fight to decide who is the better fighter. Mayweather remains the pound-for-pound champion.

The still-unbeaten Mayweather got the W by a unanimous decision, despite some flagrant fouls by Maidana — one of which went unchecked by the referee (more on that later). The fight went for 12 rounds, with the judges scoring 116-111, 116-111, and 115-112. Other sports outlets judged the matchup slightly differently, but all went in Mayweather’s favor. After their fight earlier this year, in which Maidana nearly pulled off a win, this bout seemed to be much easier for Mayweather, who controlled the battle round in and round out, and continuously landed solid right hooks on the vulnerable Maidana.

Maidana must have felt the fight slipping from his control, as he committed some ridiculous fouls, including a tackling maneuver which resulted in a point deduction, as well as what appeared to be a bite — yes, another biting incident in boxing — on Mayweather’s glove. The bite occurred in the 8th round, and Mayweather stopped the fight to complain to the official, who had not witnessed it and therefore did not call the foul. Of course, Maidana denied the charge, but instant replays seem to back up Mayweather’s claims. The bite apparently was not without effect, as Mayweather told reporters after the fight that his hand was numb for the remaining four rounds.

Now, the only question is what is on deck for the Champ. Boxing fans around the world have been hoping for a Mayweather – Pacquiao fight for ages, and it looks like that is inching closer to a reality. When asked about the possibility of a future fight with Pacquiao, Mayweather replied: “I’m going to talk to my team to see what the future holds. If the Pacquiao fight materializes, let’s make it happen.”

Of course, that wouldn’t be until 2015, but what a battle that would be! Two of the world’s undisputed best boxers, finally going glove to glove. We’re throwing our hats into the ring (cheesy pun, yes) along with the rest of the sports world, and wishing for this to become a reality!
