ESPN announced that Stephen A. Smith will be taking a break from his show, First Take, following the aftermath of his controversial statements about women and domestic violence while discussing the NLF’s suspension of Baltimore Raven, Ray Rice.

The controversial statements that got Stephen A. Smith his one-week “vacation” from ESPN implied that some women are to blame—at least partially—for domestic violence. There was an immediate outcry, which prompted Smith to tweet two apologies.

Just three days later, he issued a pre-taped—yet heartfelt—apology on the Monday edition of First Take on July 28th. A spokesperson for ESPN said the host would not be on First Take or ESPN Radio for the next week but would return the following Wednesday.

Almost immediately, Stephen A. Smith again tweeted that he accepts ESPN’s decision and his apology speaks for itself.
