Tis the Season: $700 Worth of Kindness for Pizza Guy

Pizza Guy Cries From $700 Tip - Leon Carrington

Jeff Lewis, a 22-year-old pizza delivery man for Gionino’s Pizzeria in Mentor, Ohio, shared an emotional video that has since gone viral, thanking Life Point Church for giving him a $700 tip.

The church had ordered eight pizzas for a celebration and when Jeff delivered it, Ken Wright, the pastor, asked him to come up to the platform to give him a $100 tip. Wright then invited the congregants to come up and participate if they wished, and many went up to the platform and donated, some as little as $5.

Ken reached out to Jeff after the story went viral and revealed that Jeff is shy because of all the media attention and has even offered to pay back the money, telling Ken, “I basically had given up and you restored hope in me that people care and that I’m important.”

After watching the video, not only does the thought of eight pizzas sound good(as long as they aren’t Papa Johns), but you have to feel for the kid. At one point in Jeff’s video, he shares that he’s a recovering addict and he’s been struggling to stay clean so that he can get his life together. If that doesn’t put some perspective on each of our blessings, I don’t know what will.

One act of kindness towards someone can change a life, no matter how large or small. Oprah would be proud.

Here’s a serious question though: If a group of church congregants asked you to specifically deliver a pizza to the pastor on stage, would you?

To be honest, I’d think twice. Nobody’s trying to get forced into a cult or suspect situation. I would’ve politely declined and missed out on $700 because I’m not trying to be nobody’s hashtag on Twitter any time soon. I’m just saying.

Black folks don’t go into the woods but we’re always the first ones to die in every scary movie. Yall know how it goes!
