Presidential Vacations: Obama vs. Bush

Obama vs Bush Vacation Time

Ah, the near constant bickering, name-calling, and downright rude behavior between Republicans and Democrats doesn’t get any more ridiculous than arguing over which president takes the most vacation time. As anyone with a brain capable of critical thinking could tell you, the President of the United States doesn’t really get a vacation no matter where he is — the world’s problems don’t stop simply because the president decides he wants to visit Martha’s Vineyard.

But, despite this obvious line of thought, the most popular post on the political fact-checking blog PolitiFact is just that: Which President Has Taken More Vacation Time, Bush or Obama? The answer, if you care, is President Bush…by a long shot!

Using data collected by CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who is widely known as a reputable source for documenting Presidential schedules, PolitiFact found that Obama has, up until this point in his presidency, taken 19 vacations for a total of 125 vacation days. Bush, on the other hand, had taken 65 vacations for a whopping total of 407 days “off the clock” by this point in his presidency. (Obama has him beat on golf, however, but that’s due to Bush giving up the sport after the Iraqi War started.)
