A$AP Yams Cause of Death Revealed

On January 18th, Steven “A$AP Yams” Rodriguez was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment, and the hip hop world lost one of its most promising stars. Today, we’ve learned the cause of death for this tragedy, and as everyone had feared, Yams died due to an “acute mixed drug intoxication” overdose. The New York City medical examiner’s report went on to list both opiates and benzodiazepines as the chief narcotics found in Yams’ system.

Yams was only 26 years old when he passed, but he had accomplished much as the co-partner and executive of the A$AP Worldwide label, which was born out of the NYC-based A$AP Mob rapper/producer collective. He was considered one of the top rising producers in the scene thanks in large part to his production work with A$AP Rocky, the most successful Mob emcee whose records have seen both heavy radio rotation and Billboard chart successes.

Though he was a wizard in the industry, personally Yams suffered with drug addiction and abuse, even opting into a rehab center in the summer of 2014 in an attempt at recovery. Unfortunately, Yams was unable to fully defeat his demons. In a cryptic tweet just two days before his death Yams wrote, “Bodeine Brazy,” an apparent shout-out to one of the drugs that ultimately ended up killing him.

So sad — our prayers are with Yams family and the A$AP Worldwide community!
