You saw the photos everywhere of Drake’s OVO Fest in Toronto. Celebrities flocked to the Canadian music festival including Kanye West and Will Smith. Everything appeared to be all smiles until later that evening, at Drake’s after-party in the city, shots were fired, killing two people and injuring three others.
The after-party took place at Muzik Nightclub. The altercation began inside the club, with one person being shot before spilling outside into the street, where the other four individuals were struck. It’s unknown whether Drake was still inside the club at the time of the shooting as it was after 3:20am and Muzik was shutting down for the night.
This was a brazen, large-scale, ongoing firearm incident where our officers and members of the public were directly in the line of fire,” said Toronto Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly. “We are very lucky that this is not a larger body count, quite frankly.
The club is unsure how the firearm got into the venue as they say each person was thoroughly scanned with a metal-detecting wand, over 70 security guards were on duty, and there was a large police force outside the club.
The victims were a man and a woman in their mid-20’s to mid-30’s. The man was found dead on the patio of the club after being shot inside. The woman was found a block from the club and is believed to have been struck by one of the stray bullets that was fired when the incident moved outside.
There have been no arrests and Drake has not released an official comment about the incident. At last year’s OVO Fest, another man was shot and killed as well.
