After easily becoming one of the smash hits with their debut season last year, it should have been a no-brainer that Empire receive at least one nomination at this year’s Emmy’s. Unfortunately, aside from a Best Leading Actress in a Drama nomination for Taraji P. Henson, no love was shown to the Fox musical series.
At this point, with absolutely ZERO nominations for black shows and/or actors at the 2014 Emmy Awards, the news shouldn’t come as a surprise. Yes, Empire deserved to be nominated. Yes, Lee Daniels has a right to throw a tantrum on Instagram, even if it is laced with laughs and giggles.
Jussie [Smollett] is saying I have to be politically correct on Instagram or I’m going to get in trouble,” Lee Daniels, 55, says, all smiles. “F— those motherf—ers!
But when Hollywood has historically overlooked black talent, even with the giggles, there was truth to Daniels’ words!
At the end of the day, Daniels is still getting his coins! If you recall, Fox signed a partnership deal for him to write, cast, and direct more shows on the network for the foreseeable future.
He might not get nominations, but he’s definitely getting his Benjamins and laughing all the way to the bank!
Raise your hand if you’re looking forward to season 2 of Empire. Mmhmm, keep your Emmy’s, we’re good over here.
