News Say What?

Hillary Clinton – Why Some Women Say They Could Never Vote for a Woman President

Some women say they could never vote for a woman president. Say what! Well, that’s what I’ve heard from many women in my community. Honestly, it kind of shocked me. One older lady in the group said a woman can’t and shouldn’t be a ruler over a nation. Ouch! Those are some strong words. Another woman said that women have mood swings and make decisions on impulses. I just kind of shook my head at that one. Seriously? A few others chimed in saying that women are meant to follow and not lead. One woman announced that she wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton. All these ladies were over 60 years old and seemed to have an “old school” mentality about the roles of women in society.

But it’s not just older women who feel this way. According to Today, Cheryl Rios, the CEO of a small Texas marketing company wrote this on Facebook after Clinton announced she was running for president.

A female shouldn’t be president. Let the haters begin…but with the hormones we have there is no way we should be able to start a war.

Personally, I think it’s a shame that a woman hasn’t been voted President of the United States yet. In fact, we only have two chances left (2016 and 2020) to elect a woman president within 100 years of women getting the right to vote. The 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote was passed in 1919 and ratified in 1920.

Unfortunately, recent history shows that women don’t vote for women at the polls. Remember when Hillary Clinton ran for the presidential nomination back in 2008. In January, she placed 3rd behind Obama and Edwards at the first Democratic caucus in Iowa. Though she gained some ground along the way, she eventually threw in the proverbial towel and backed Obama when it became clear in June that he had enough delegates to win the nomination. Phyllis Chesler, Ph.D. who is professor emerita of psychology and the author of Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman says,

Allow me to spell it out for you. Like men, women are also sexists. They still expect women to behave in ‘feminine’ ways; this includes choosing a man as a protector, not as an opponent to publicly defeat in a very aggressive, ‘male’ way. In addition, despite exceptions, women do not necessarily like, respect, or trust other women. Even more important, woman do not like another woman getting more attention than they themselves get. Female politicians are in the limelight; female voters are not.

With all this hating going on among women, it looks like men might elect the first woman president. Wouldn’t that be ironic! Tell me what you think.
